Unita Brewing Co.'s Monkshine Beeline Style Blonde : 6.8% ABV.. from Salt Lake City, UT bottled 7/31/13?!? I'm drinking a beer from the future! So with it getting to be springtime and unquestionably a bit warmer out, I was feeling like something with a lighter body but with a fuller flavor, and thought a blonde -Belgian style or otherwise - would be a good call. One of the reasons I post my beers is because I'm still a novice when it comes to knowing what's what though, so I'm not sure how to rate this. For me, it's a 4 or 5 / 10, but I may not know what exactly it is I want. I really enjoyed the Eel River Blonde, and this is not that... On the positive side it's got a fantastic 9/10 nose and mouthfeel! The nose carries sweet vanilla, Hawaiian Bread toast, light used oak barrel, and hints of wine lees (though I guess it would just be beer lees?) . The mouthfeel is full, rich, and soft, yet not heavy like a stout. The palette is where I get sad, as it doesn't deliver on the promises of the nose. It's dry with a bitter starchy-ness. More like what I've come to expect from a pilsner... Think bud/Miller/Coors but with artisan quality, a fuller body, a hint of sweetness, and some 'Oomph' to it. Wait... I'd been breathing for about ten minutes while I've been spellchecking, and some more sweetness is coming up... it's edging towards a 7/10. I'll be sure to update if it gets there :) For now though? 6.5/10, but maybe a 7.5 for a 90° day by the pool in Vegas
