So I got excited and decided to do a Double Feature this week. The second feature this week is the beautiful Ms.Sheila Guyse. Ms.Guyse was one of Dottie's contemporaries and was often compared to her. Ms.Sheila Guyse was a popular African American singer, actress, and recording artist, performing on stage and screen during the 1940s and 1950s. Ms. Guyse had a sultry "girl-next-door" appeal which she showcased in three independent all Black films (also called race films) of the late 1940s. Miles Davis said he never understood why Sheila isn't a legend of more well known. This is the exact purpose of "Feature Tuesdays" to honor African American legendary entertainers who otherwise would not be recognized. Ms. Guyse also appeared in many Broadway stage productions such as Lost in the Stars and Finian's Rainbow, both were long running shows. Ms. Guyse wasn't an experienced or trained actress, she was simply a natural talent. Ms.Sheila Guyse is still living and gaining fans through her honey glazed voice, acting talent, beauty and "sweetheart" persona. Ms. Sheila Guyse is 88 years old. Her movies Boy! What A Girl! (1947), Sepia Cinderella(1947, co-starring Billy Daniels) and Miracle In Harlem(1948) can ALL be found on You Tube!!!
