IM ALL LIT UP ON COLDBREW
And you can be, too.
1. Pick a lovely coffee. Or, any coffee. Everything is more delicious coldbrewed- sweeter, stronger, smoother. I couldn't resist Counter Culture's new Kenyan, because the first suggested tasting note is lime and how fun and summery is that?
2. Weigh your coffee. I used rough measurements for my first time coldbrewing at home: 1 part coffee to 2 parts water. In my case, I used 2 cups of cold, filtered water and 1 cup (88g) of coffee beans, ground as coarsely as my home grinder could go.
3. Add a touch of the water into your French press (or any container of any kind, really). Layer in a portion of coffee, followed by a gently poured layer of water. Continue layering coffee and water, being sure to end with a good layer of water. Aim for grounds that are evenly soaked and saturated, without being stirred or agitated too much. (Agitation -> bitterness) Grounds will have risen to the top, but as long as they're wet, you're a-okay.
4. Leave it alone! Room temp, covered but breathing. Experiment with timing. I shot for a 12 hour extraction, but things don't always go as planned. 24 hours worked out just fine.
5. Strain your coffee reeeal good. A fine mesh strainer is okay, but to keep silt from ruining the party, pour your coffee through a filter, cheesecloth, etc. Use what you got.
6. Your coffee concentrate is complete! Dilute with equal parts cold, filtered water and ice for a delicious iced coffee. You can also drink it straight (so syrupy- at least try a sip!) or cut with milk (I went with coconut milk to complement that lime note in the coffee.... Talk about some tropical delight). So, get to it!
