openyoureyes87 : @ranuh, since you did such extensive research, can you provide a valid source to your claims?
ranuh : Wish I could dude but all the bookmarks are on my laptop that got stolen...try googling kony 2012 criticism or invisible children.
openyoureyes87 : @ranuh you can't provide them because they don't exist. Kony is still at large. They recently caught one of the head commanders, but are still unsure about Kony's whereabouts. The LRA is still kidnapping, looting, raping, and terrorizing. I have done EXTENSIVE research (spanning across 6 years). This is still a very real issue. As for Jason (the "organizer"), he was not arrested. He was not peeing in public. He suffered from an episode of Reactive Psychosis, a mental illness. He was hospitalized immediately after the episode, and is recovering well. Thanks for your concern. Lastly, IC is pointless, you say? Rallying a planet together for the arrest of a war criminal is pointless? Providing jobs, rehabilitation, education, and safety for victims of the most wanted man alive is pointless? If that is all pointless, then what is the point exactly? Before you tell people to "do the research," you should probably do it first... And just so you know, TMZ isn't a credible source of information...
ranuh : Wow you might have done research and that's cool but you don't have to be rude and say mine don't exist (laptop really did get stolen I'm not a liar) and ive read them. The problem with IC is that they dont understand the culture in Uganda to just "stop kony" and they don't work with groups in uganda that are already trying to recover their children, nor do they have any people from uganda who understand the situation first hand on their team. Ugandans are all victims with no autonomy to IC and that's a problem. I'm just trying to say they have their problems and posting a picture in your office and around buildings isn't gonna stop whats happening. In regards to his reactive psychosis, I think he should probably get stabilized before deciding that putting up posters is gonna do anything- I'm not trying to say that he's crazy or no one should listen bc of the episode, but his white savior attitude with the Ugandans as helpless victims isn't going to help these people in the long run.
kileyroseatkins : @openyoureyes87 Peter respect points: +1,000
openyoureyes87 : @kileyroseatkins thanks! ;) @ranuh IC has a staff of over 80 Africans in Uganda and central Africa. On top of that, they are partnered with many organizations on the ground in Africa, as well as globally who have been doing work in Africa for quite some time. So whether some concerned Americans in a global community understand another culture fully is irrelevant, seeing as they have made the effort to understand them by working through the differences. IC empowers those in central Africa, not victimizes... Needless to say, I would say that me posting a picture in my office, sparking discussion, and providing proper and thorough information is doing more to stop the problem than sitting on instagram and telling everyone who posts Kony/IC pictures that they are wrong. Education is power. And Jason Russell is being stabilized. He has taken a break from work to focus on his health, but he wasn't the organization. The organization is a global movement to stop an international war criminal - stitched together by dreamers, activists, and people who care more about the cause than the critics. Please, enough with the "white savior" stuff. We live in a global community. People of all races, backgrounds, religions, etc. have united for this cause - not just white people. Where you live shouldn't determine whether you live. So if we know of something going on in another community, state, country, or continent, we should help out if we can. Why criticize a good thing?
openyoureyes87 : @ranuh, did I lose you?
