Ardbeg Day [56.7% ABV] Nose ~ Toasted oak and ginger notes practically leap from the glass, assailing the nose, leaving behind a spicy wake flowing with brown sugar and a hint of toffee. Taste ~ It sits dryly on the tip of the tongue like a snake poised to strike and then releases a backdraft style explosion of flavor - ginger and cinnamon spice infused with hint of sweetness. The release peaks revealing the typical smoke and peat notes Ardbeg fans have come to love. Finish ~ A long, hot finish, not peppery, but leaving behind just a whiff of fruitiness that seems to be hiding within its 56.7% bottling strength. Overall ~ To quote my friends from across the pond, this is a cracking good whisky. The high bottling strength is quite welcomed, but at over 6% ABV higher than last year's Alligator this is an expression you might want to add some water to in order to really experience everything it has to offer. While there are some similarities with last year's Alligator release, 'Day' has a personality all its own, albeit a seemingly more youthful and explosive one. And while I gave the Alligator Committee Release from last year a mark of 94/100, this year's 'Day' - due to it's less balanced presentation - gets a mark of 92/100. #igwhiskytasting #whiskymarks #singlemalt #scotch #whisky #whiskey #ardbeg #ardbegday #alligator #glencairn #islay

jasminkliko : It was a great day! Even though i had to leave gothenburg city to celebrate a birthday. At a bar here in Gothenburg you could try the Ardbeg day Whisky! Hopefully I will get a new chance tomorrow evening! I saw your new posts with left hand! Hope I get a chance to try it! Tomorrow I hopefully will get my hands on Brewdogs Abstrakt 09! Will see tomorrow what the day holds for me!

boozedancing : Aroma: When nosed at full strength, you definitely get those alcohol vapors tickling your nose, but itβs not as strong as I expected. Letting it open up a bit in the glass, and giving it a few swirls helps to alleviate this. Once the alcohol fades, that classic Ardbeg smokiness is there, but this time around, itβs backed with a healthy dose of fruity sweetness. Brown sugar coated figs carmelizing over an open fire (a peat fueled fire!), rum soaked raisins, and letβs not forget those herbal and medicinal notes lurking in the background. Adding a good slosh of water tones down the smoke and fruit while amping up the herbal and medicinal notes.
Taste: Medium bodied with a somewhat oily texture. Coats from the middle to the tip of my tongue. Peat smoke and iodine flavors in the beginning. Sharp black pepper notes kick in at mid-palate, but the peat and iodine flavors never let go. Towards the end, those sweet, fruity notes become more apparent. i.e. brown sugar and dried fruit. Long and warming sweet/spicy finish. Somewhat astringent and medicinal aftertaste (picked up some licorice notes too).The Ardbeg Uigeaddail is a deliciously complex and flavorful whisky. It has the fire and vibrancy of their 10 year old and Corryvreckan expressions (read more about these whiskies by clicking here and here), but the addition of older, ex-Sherry casks adds a healthy measure of richness, and helps to round out the flavors. I really enjoyed this whisky and look forward to sharing it often with the rest of the crew. Happy #ArdbegDay! #igwhiskytasting
