I did a little research myself so as to avoid confirmation bias. There's really not much correlation between per capita gun ownership and per capita homicide rates. Data is from 2007-2009 for 129 countries.
plot - davekopel - yaxis - graph - nra - excel - chart - shootingsports - firearms - xaxis - rkba - warondrugs - guns - handguns -
mrwallst : Excluded countries are smaller island nations for which data for either or both factors is not available
mrwallst : US homicide rate is high, but still under 5 per 100K. What remains unspoken is the violence caused by the government's #warondrugs
mrwallst : #guns #firearms #NRA #handguns #davekopel #shootingsports #Excel #plot #graph #chart #xaxis #yaxis
mrwallst : #rkba if anything there is a slight negative correlation overall. The more industrialized a country, the lower the violence - and the higher the civilian gun ownership rate. Culture is also a factor. Switzerland has a very high rate of guns, yet very little crime. Japan has never had them, but also low crime. The places with astronomical murder rates also have low gun ownership rates - Jamaica, Honduras etc
